Artist Statement: Dany Pen
With the combination of digital + new media, photography, and organic materials, Dany Pen focuses on how collective memory and history are preserved, salvaged, and revived through the displacements of individuals and groups.
About The Artist:
Dany Pen is a Khmer artist, activist, writer and educator.
She received her B.F.A Degree from OCAD University in Toronto, Canada; majoring in Sculpture & Installation; completing her Undergraduate Thesis on, “Art as artifacts: how memory and history are preserved, revived and salvaged”.
Dany Pen, as a practicing artist is known for her photo & new media installations. She has traveled and built her portfolio capturing images in countries such as Canada, U.S.A, Bermuda and Mexico. Her work has been exhibited in museums, national galleries and international biennials. She has also lectured and given presentations to universities & colleges in Canada and Bermuda.
Her works can also be viewed at the Brooklyn Art Library; New York, U.S.A and in XPACE Cultural Centre Anthology; Toronto, Canada.
Dany Pen currently serves as a Commissioner on the Human Rights Commission; sits on the Advisory Board of the Social Enterprise Program in Canada; and previously sat on The Bermuda Sunshine League Foundation fundraising committee and the The Bermuda Film Festival Education Committee.
